Lots of W’s this Fall

Between a #1 ranked football team, according to MaxPreps, and a championship winning golf program, fall sports are having great seasons across the board. Let’s take a deeper dive into how the Loyola Ramblers have been competing this season.
Varsity field hockey started off the season strong winning the Gateway Tournament in St. Louis. They have continued to impress with a very very close game against New Trier, 0-1 loss with a goal in the final minute, and a W on the road against Arrowhead, the #2 team in Wisconsin. They are led by team captains Caroline Southwell, Izzie Schario, and Claire Murnane.
The girls cross country team also started off the season strong with a W overall at the DePaul Prep Invitational. They are looking forward to Flight Night, a nighttime meet held at Loyola’s own Hill on Fri, October 7. The team is led by captains Maeve Norman, Ellie Grammas, Molly McKinley, Hope Donnelly, Sarah Daniel, Madeline Allhouse, and Lulu Lamb. All seven of the varsity runners are vying for state this season. The Boys Cross country team is led by captains James Lombardo, Will Simon, and Ben Howland.
Volleyball has been strong all season lead by commits, Catherine Burke, committed to Penn State, and Ava Bogen, committed to Cornell. They had a big W against NT and many other wins so far this season. They put up a tough fight against #1 Mother McAuley, losing the second set by only two points.
Loyola football is back and better than ever. They started the season strong with a win against St. Xavier from Ohio on live TV. They currently boast a 6-0 record. Led by captains Brooks Bahr, committed to Michigan, Jake Stearney, committed to Colgate, Jack Fitzgerald, committed to Northwestern, and John McGuire. The team is looking forward to its game against Mt. Carmel and is vying for the state championship.
Hockey is just getting started and is still in the seating round, but it’s off to a good start. Boys Gold Hockey boasts a 5-2 record led by team captain Ryan Cowen. They had an exciting 1-0 win against LFA as Cole Joubert scored the winning goal in the final minutes. They are looking forward to playing New Trier Green and are vying for state this spring. Girls hockey is also off to a great start. They took the W this week over the defending state champs, Latin. They are led by captains Kelly Morgan, Lauren Smith, Bella Goetz, Nora Kulovitz, Maddie Quinn, Shira Wein, and Pearl Steinhouse.
JV and Varsity Boys Golf won the CCL Championship this year! Varsity scored 17 under par led by Ryan Banas, shorting a 64 and breaking the CCL record, Gavin Smith, shooting a 67, Drew Southwell, shooting a 68, and Joey Pierraci who shot a 72. Girls Varsity Golf won the GCAC Championship this year. Junior Katie Magner, three time GCAC champion, shot a 72 and earned medalist honors.
The rowing teams are looking forward to the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga. The boys varsity is led by Gus Berne and girls varsity is led by Anya Cominos, committed to Wisconsin.
Girls tennis has had a good season thus far and is looking forward to the conference championships, where they are hoping for a win against Fenwick, and hopefully sectionals later in the season. They got second place in the Niles West invite by only one point and were led by team captains Bridget Lynch and Dottie Ghislandi.
Boys soccer has had a strong season so far and is currently standing with 2 wins and 1 tie in the CCL playoffs. They beat Brother Rice, 3-0, Marmion,1-0, and tied Mt. Carmel 1-1. They are led by team captains Joey Vehovsky, Clinton Birchard and Andrew Newton.
Last but not least, Girls Swimming and Diving just took second place in the ETHS invitational. They are led by captains Michaela Heintz and Grace Darren.
