The students of Loyola Academy are looking forward to dress down days once more thanks to the policy change regarding the dress code.
On Monday, August 21 Loyola’s StudentActivities Director, Ms. Krein, announced the new changes allowing students to wear leggings and yoga pants. The rule that was once enforced before, has now ceased to exist thanks to three persevering student council members.
Originally leggings and yoga pants were banned from the student dress code causing controversy between the administration enforcing the rules and the students.
Ms. Krein explained the thought process of the adults who were involved in creating the rule. “The Dean’s office got fed up with the constant retaliation from students, so they put a ban on leggings and yoga pants.”
Mia Swanson, Erin Keating, and Maddy Byrd all took the initiative to work and create the proposal regarding these restrictions. They then set up a meeting with the Principal, the Student Activities Director, and the Dean of Students to present their proposal they worked tirelessly to create.
According to Principal Devine, the meeting lasted a total of around 48 seconds with the end result being a yes to the changes. “I’m not that interested in dress code politics, so they were all immediately approved,” said Principal Devine.
With homecoming and spirit week creeping around the corner, students are eager to start putting the new rules into action and administrators are relieved that it is one less rule to hold students accountable for.
