This year the country tuned in to watch the special 75th annual Emmy awards. It was hosted by Anthony Anderson, with a special appearance from his mother, whose playful heckling was used as play off music for the winner’s speeches.
To celebrate 75 years of TV show history, the show staged reunions for many old tv shows including Grey’s Anatomy, The Sopranos, and Cheers. To open the show, Anthony Anderson performed the theme songs of a handful of shows including Good Times, The Facts of Life, and Miami Vice.
Hit show Succession dominated its competition with twenty-seven nominations, and six awards. Four of the actors were nominated for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series, with Matthew Macfayden winning the award. Other winners include Jesse Armstrong (writing), Mark Mylod (directing), Kieran Culkin (lead actor), Sarah Snook (lead actress), and the cast pulled out one final win with outstanding drama series.
The Bear also had a lot of victories with thirteen nominations and tying Succession with six wins, winning six out of seven awards in the comedic series category. The only lost award was outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, which was won by Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary.
The final big winning show was Beef starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun. The show won five out of their nine nominations in the limited or anthology series category. Lee Sung Jin won two awards for the cast, writing and directing. Both of the stars won their categories for lead actor, and lead actress.
