Usher took the stage for this year’s Super Bowl halftime show this past Sunday in Las Vegas. He brought guest performers like Alicia Keys, Lil Jon, Ludacris, H.E.R, and a few more.
Usher’s performance was pretty good. Usher had lots of energy and some killer dance moves that showed America that he was a good choice for the halftime performer.
He started with his 1997 hit song “My Way” and slowly made his way into more fast-paced and upbeat songs like “Love in this Club” and “Superstar.”
Usher is an incredible dancer. He seemed to have every single person’s attention when dancing across the Super Bowl stage or gliding across it in roller skates during the song “O.M.G.”
He also nailed the energy of this performance. Besides “My Boo” and “My Way,” Usher made it clear he came to Las Vegas ready to bring every ounce of energy he had.
Specifically, songs like “Love in this Club” and “Yeah!” with guest artists Lil Jon and Ludacris showed how talented Usher is at entertaining the crowd. These fan-favorite songs were the highlight of this entire performance.
His outfits also brought the heat during this performance. Usher’s first look, a white outfit with a bedazzled cape popped for the first few songs. Then the smooth transition during artist H.E.R’s solo performance to his roller skating ensemble meant to represent roller rink culture in the late 70s and early 80s brought the crowd’s energy to a whole new level.
Although this performance was electric and most definitely brought insane energy to the Super Bowl halftime show, it did have a few downsides.
Usher’s microphone was shockingly low in volume. The background track and his other performers were the majority of this performance. Usher was barely heard over his guest artist and tracks, so it made the performance a little lackluster in certain songs that require a loud voice.
Usher also targeted his audience to older individuals. Lots of the songs he played were hits in the 1990s to early 2000s, so It got a little boring during a few of Usher’s songs that I had never listened to before and were not as popular or well known.
He didn’t play many of his classic songs that young adults would know from more recent trends like his song “Come Thru” or “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)” which have more recently become trending to the teenage community.
Overall, Usher did a pretty solid job performing at the Super Bowl halftime show in Las Vegas. Although he was not better than his predecessors Rihanna and 2022 performance with Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and 50 Cent, Usher showed he could still entertain and put on a fun show for the crowd.
Even with technical issues with his microphone, he still brought everything he had through his dance moves and incredible roller skating skills.
