“Woman leadership is so important…especially to advocate for what we believe in,” Women Leader Filia Tzortzis said.
With Women’s History Month approaching, get ready for many exciting and inspirational activities and announcements from Loyola’s Women Leaders. The leaders are looking to have an impactful and engaging month through upcoming Instagram posts, panels, and donation drives with the main goal of raising awareness about the wonderful women who have inspired the world.
Instagram posts are just one way the Women Leaders want to shed light on women who deserve the spotlight.
One of the types of Instagram posts that you should keep an eye out for is Motivational Mondays. Every Monday on the Loyola Student Activities Instagram, a small post will contain an uplifting quote from a fellow woman. They hope you are able to reflect with this quote and that it makes your day just a little bit brighter.
Another type of Instagram post worthy of your attention is Women Wednesday. Every Wednesday another post will be made honoring a woman who hasn’t always been highlighted like they should be.
The goal is for you to be introduced to another inspirational woman.
“We need to educate people on different powerful women in our history and lives…to show people that women have a bigger impact on our lives than they realize,” Filia said.
The last type of Instagram post for Women’s History Month is Female Friday. Every Friday the Women Leaders want to use a post to highlight a women-owned business in our community, from bakeries to flower shops.
“Through our social media campaign, what I like is highlighting local businesses that you might not know like 3 Tartes, a bakery right here in Wilmette,” said Ms. Sanks, the Women Leaders Club moderator.
Ms. Sanks is especially looking forward to the panels that the group will offer.
The panels will allow students to hear from influential women, such as business owners, about their experiences in the business field as females.
“This year in particular I am very proud and excited for this Women’s History Month,” Ms. Sanks said.
Additionally, there are donation drives. Women Leaders hope to raise money for women-owned associations in need. The upcoming bake sale on Tues, March 5 is a donation center to look out for.
Yet another way the leaders are looking to increase student participation is through banners around the school. You can look and engage with the banners and learn more about women’s history.
“You can really take time to look at them and see this what Women Leaders stands for and notice it’s more than just a holiday or month but it’s about worldwide leadership and representation,” Filia said.
The entire club wants to uplift the Loyola community this Women’s History Month.
One Loyola student said, “I’m looking forward to this upcoming month and seeing everything Women Leaders has to offer.”
