As the school year is fully back in swing, Loyola students have been given some much deserved days off.
Oct. 14 was Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Oct. 16 was the PSAT. Freshman and juniors got a half day once they finished taking the test, and sophomores and seniors had the full day off.
Coming up, students will have Oct. 24 and 25 off for Parent-Teacher Conferences and a half day Nov. 7 and a full day off Nov. 8 due to the Open House.
With all of these days of no school, many Ramblers are left with tons of free time they do not know how to fill. So, here are the Top 10 Things to do on a Day off School:
10. Watch TV: All of the extra hours of free time can totally be filled with some TV. Whether it’s a throwback, like Gossip Girl, or something new, like season four of Outer Banks, now is the perfect time to binge.
9. Bake: A day off is a great opportunity to take up a new hobby or spend time with one you already have. For example, baking. Bake cookies, a cake, muffins, rice krispies, or anything else that sounds good. And don’t forget to eat it!
8. Arts & Crafts: Another hobby that would be fun to try is crafting. Sophomore Nora Duryea used one of her days off to make her own sweatshirt. She took a plain white sweatshirt and sewed on some fabric to create her unique design. “I can’t wait to wear it now,” Duryea said.
7. Spend Time with Family: All of the endless hours of school and activities can make it hard to find time to be with family. A day off is the perfect time to plan something fun together.
6. Read a Book: With all of the work that students have to, reading can often get pushed to the side. Popular authors like Sally Rooney and Freida McFadden have recently released new books, so use the free time to check those out.
5. Get Homework Done: Even though it is supposed to be a break from school, having a full day with nothing to do can be an opportunity to catch up or get ahead on work. It’s enough time to get every assignment done and have nothing to do for the next few days.
4. Go to a Pumpkin Patch: A group of seniors went to Didier Farms for a fun day of fall activities. “It was so cute,” senior Allie Powers said. “I loved it.”
3. Go out to Lunch: Get a bunch of friends together and grab lunch together. Maybe it’s a Starbucks run, a restaurant downtown, or the local favorite spot.
2. Go Out of Town: Why spend the days here when there are so many places to visit? Senior Evelyn Pricco took a quick trip to Nashville with her family. “It was such a fun city,” Pricco said.
#1. Sleep In: The best part about not having school, most students have said, is not having to wake up for it!
Enjoy the days off Ramblers!
