The most coveted award ceremony in the music world, the 2025 Grammys will be held on February 2, and they are sure to cause an uproar. This year, the Big 4—the awards for album, record, song, and best new artist—are dominated by this year’s trailblazing female pop artists.
For Album of the Year, Beyoncé’s COWBOY CARTER, Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet, Charli xcx’s BRAT, Billie Eilish’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, Chappell Roan’s The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess, Taylor Swift’s THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT, Jacob Collier’s Djesse Vol. 4, and André 3000’s New Blue Sun are all nominated.
Jacob Collier and André 3000’s albums, while undoubtedly amazing and worthy of their nominations, are not at all likely to win in this category. Both projects are severely behind in album sales and acclaim.
Though they have much better odds, Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan are also unlikely to win, due to their relative newness in the music industry and lack of album sales as a result.
Charli xcx’s BRAT and Beyoncé’s COWBOY CARTER would mainly win for their influence on media trends and pop culture, rather than their actual value as projects.
Projected to win in this category is either Billie Eilish, who won the award in 2020, or Taylor Swift, who would make history with her fifth win of this night’s most prestigious award.
Record of the Year’s nominees are The Beatles for “Now and Then”, Beyoncé’s “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM’”, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso”, Charli xcx’s “360”, Billie Eilish’s “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”, Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!”, and the Taylor Swift and Post Malone collab “Fortnight.”
Though these artists are all prominent, the three obvious leads in this category would be Beyoncé, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan.
“TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” was Beyoncé’s fabulous debut onto the country scene, and was loved by pop fans and country fans alike.
“Espresso” was the song of the summer, catchy and cheeky in Sabrina Carpenter’s signature style.
“Good Luck Babe!” was Chappell Roan’s first radio hit and arguably the most impressive song, both lyrically and sonically, out of all of the nominees. With its honest lyrics reflecting the queer experience and Roan’s glittery falsetto to perfectly capture it, “Good Luck Babe!” seems the most likely to win.
Song of the Year—differing from Record of the Year, which is primarily for the lyricism of a track—is truly an award that can go to anyone this year. Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”, Billie Eilish’s “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”, Taylor Swift and Post Malone’s “Fortnight”, Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck Babe!”, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s “Die With A Smile”, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please”, and Beyoncé’s “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” are all nominees in this category.
Projected to win are Shaboozey, Beyoncé, and Sabrina Carpenter. Shaboozey’s win could mark the artist’s first Grammy, and it is well deserved. “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is a wonderful remake that is somehow better than the original. It is surely the top runner for this award.
Out of all of the categories, Best New Artist has a roster where all artists are on an equal standing for this award. The nominees are Benson Boone, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Khruangbin, Raye, Chappell Roan, Shaboozey, and Teddy Swims. This year, every one of these artists had either a pop hit or notable collab with another artist.
Benson Boone toured with Taylor Swift at the Eras Tour, and had two pop hits, “Cry” and “Beautiful Things.”
Sabrina Carpenter also toured with Taylor Swift, and recently kicked off her own tour for her album Short N’ Sweet, which is Grammy-nominated.
Doechii has recently been featured on Tyler, The Creator’s new album, CHROMAKOPIA, and went viral for her song “WHAT IT IS”.
Khruangbin has been a Latin pop sensation with their new album “A LA SALA”.
Raye had the internet in a frenzy with the chorus of her song “Escapism.”.
Chappell Roan toured with Olivia Rodrigo and has her debut album nominated for multiple Grammys.
Shaboozey served country with a side of rap on “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”.
Teddy Swims took over the radio with his vocal range on “Lose Control”.
There is no clear winner for this category based on how phenomenally well each artist’s career is doing.
In summation, the Grammys this year will cause quite the stir. So don’t forget to tune in!
