Finals week is the most crammed, stressful time, the only thing standing in the way between you and your restful winter break. Between last-minute lessons, turning in any late assignments, and studying for tests, it is easy to get stressed. Here are ten tips to help you get through finals week.
- Cultivate a productive space
It is important to have the area where you study be free of distractions. Find a place with natural light and the materials you need to ensure a focused study time.
2. Take breaks
As much as we want to absorb as much information as possible, taking breaks can benefit us just as much, if not more. By being refreshed and energized when studying, it will help us by allowing us to be the most attentive and ready to learn.
3. Exercise
Exercising is a great way to get your mind off of finals while allowing you to get fresh air. Whether it’s taking a run or taking your dog for a walk, this can be incredibly beneficial.
4. Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep before the exam is crucial, but so is getting a good night’s sleep in general. The more well-rested you are, the better.
5. Set attainable goals
Having a little motivation can spur us into action. Setting attainable goals for yourself can encourage you to keep working.
6. Reward yourself
Rewards are a sweet way to honor yourself for your dedication. Whether it’s getting to watch an episode of your favorite show or getting a chocolate after you finish studying, this can give you something to look forward to.
7. Use the buddy system
Make studying fun! Gather a group of friends or classmates to go over materials. Doing this can allow you to be social and still get things done.
8. Plan ahead
Making yourself a study schedule, and sticking to it, can help you to feel more prepared and give you a roadmap to follow. A simple Google Doc or an elaborate calendar can go a long way.
9. Use different studying techniques
There are many studying techniques out there that can help you. Whether it’s making practice tests, teaching someone else what you’re learning, or doing Quizlets, there are numerous things you can do to help you master your materials.
10. Use all your resources
Don’t just limit yourself to your notes. You can ask teachers for help, look up YouTube videos to clarify problems you may face, and consult with your peers on different topics.
A combination of these tips can lead to success on your finals, and can allow you to get through them with the least amount of stress possible. Good luck, Ramblers!
