Last Thursday Mr. Taherkhani resigned from teaching without notice.
One of his students’ most favorite teachers, this disappearance is saddening to many. Loyola Academy said that it was his decision to leave. Mr. T could not be found for comment.
Only teaching at Loyola for two years, Mr. T, as many called him, demonstrated a keen understanding of the courses he taught, Computer Science and Math.
He immigrated from Tehran, Iran where he received his bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, then to Ohio where he completed his master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Mr. T is fluent in three languages, English, Persian, and Arabic. He learned Arabic primarily in school. But the predominant language of Iran is Persian which he speaks better than any other language. Though, Mr. T caught on quickly to English, using it in grad school and through the online resources for coding and aerospace engineering. Certainly the language barrier was non-existent in his second year at Loyola Academy.
“He was a great teacher,” said Demi Ogunkola, a senior Computer Science Principles student, who had no problems understanding or conversing with Mr. T. Really Mr. T “made computer science interesting,” adding that he taught in a way conducive to many students who have never coded before.
Emiliano Murguiac had Mr. T as his teacher two years in a row. He echoed a similar feeling, “Mr. T was the best! It sucks that he’s gone.”
Mr. T taught one freshman Algebra 1 math class, one Computer Science A class, and two Computer Science Principles classes.
Many students felt bitter sadness at his departure. “I can’t believe he left us like that,” senior Paul Craddock said.
Mr. T will not return, according to Loyola Academy. Now other math teachers are teaching his old classes.
