On Sunday afternoon I golfed at Weber Golf Course for the first time. Weber is located on Weber Park Pl just off of Church Street in Skokie. It is a 9 hole public course that offers a cheap and easy golf experience.
Weber is a par three course so all of the holes are short in comparison to a regular golf course. Hole one starts with a 110 yard straight shot from the tee box to the pin. This is much shorter than the average hole in golf but it is what to be expected for a par 3 course in an urban area.
Hole two is a bit more difficult as a fence and some trees make for a narrow fairway. The 130 yard hole is a fun one but maybe one of the more difficult ones there. Hole three is another 110 yarder. Once again it is a straight shot but it’s green is a little unforgiving as I did poorly putting. Hole 4 is the shortest of the course. Only 85 yards which is the shortest distance to a hole I have ever seen. The tricky part is the bunker lies right in front of the green so you need to loft the ball over it without hitting it too far.
Holes five and six are the longest holes on the course. They both measure at 140 yards. Both of these are fairly simple holes as well. There is a bunker on hole six right next to the green but aside from that neither are very difficult.
Seven and eight are similar to each other as well. They each measure in at 120 yards and stick with the theme of being a straight shot from the tee box. Lastly, the ninth hole is a 110 yard chip shot. After I had a tough go on the final hole I had my complete opinion on Weber golf course.
Weber is a great option if you are a beginner to golf and not looking to spend a fortune on a round. Its accessibility is also great. I booked the tee time only twenty minutes before it started and there were no problems acquiring it. The other nice thing was I never was stuck waiting for someone in front of me or holding up the people behind me. One other positive was I had the lowest score of my life, which is a nice confidence boost. Realistically I only did this because it is a par three course, but it felt nice looking at my score.
Some downsides were that it is only a par three course, so that means it is short and driving never comes into play. The similarity of holes can be a bit repetitive but it is what you paid for.
Loyola student James Martin, who also played the course, said, “I like how well kept the grass is at Weber. The staff is good and it is affordable.”
What he didn’t love about the course was the fact that “Weber could work on having better sign placement for each hole because they are in weird spots sometimes.”
“I like to golf at Weber and I have a good time with my friends at Weber and I’ll continue to go,” Martin said.
Weber is a perfect place for a quick, easy, and cheap golf game. It is also great place to work on your short game. It’s not the traditional course, but if you know what you’re going into it’s a fun course worth playing.
