Hometown Coffee and Juice is a popular spot for breakfast, lunch, or brunch. Their recent upgrade to the menu elevates the cafe and makes the decision of what to get that much harder.
Hometown is an everyday cafe and gathering place. It offers a full menu of breakfast and lunch options to go along with their coffee, juice, and smoothies. With three different locations (Glencoe, Winnetka, and Lake Forest) and the hours of 7am-5pm Monday through Sunday, there are plenty of times to stop by this warm and inviting cafe.
After viewing the menu online, I noticed the brand new pop tarts that, according to Hometown social media sites, were introduced to the world on March 21, 2025. They are $6 each and available in blueberry, strawberry, and brown sugar. The fun and appetizing look created by the brightly colored sprinkles and gourmet style decorative frosting will draw your eyes to this new, delicious pastry.
According to Hometown social media sites, the pop tarts were created in partnership with EvaDean’s Bakery and Cafe- a classic American breakfast and lunch cafe located in Wilmette. Each pop tart is made fresh with premium ingredients by the EvaDean’s owner, who is a second generation baker with tons of experience.
And let me tell you, the pop tarts are incredible. There is so much flavor bursting out of each bite mixed with the perfect amount of frosting. The pastries are flaky but do not create a mess while eating them and the baked dough has the perfect amount of crispness. Each pastry is made fresh everyday but be warned, they often sell out quickly from the morning rush and may not be available towards the end of the day.
In terms of portion sizes, the pop tarts are perfect! One pop tart is enough to satisfy you until your next meal. But if you are hoping to have a more nutritious breakfast, I would recommend adding a side of eggs or a fruit bowl.
An unfortunate aspect of Hometown that can be frustrating are the wait times. But luckily, the pop tarts are pre-made and ready to go as a quick grab and go option. If you are in a real time crunch and do not want to wait in a line to order, it’s ok because you can order online and pick up at a set time. Online orders are made possible through the easily accessible app or online website.
For those who are not in a rush, the dining area has many tables. Does it get crowded and a bit overwhelming at times? Yes, it definitely does. I would recommend going during the early morning or late afternoon to avoid the mid-morning rush.
If you are someone who loves a good pastry in the morning, especially a pop tart, I would highly recommend going to Hometown- you will not be disappointed. As The Record newspaper states, “something is always brewing at Hometown Coffee and Juice.”
