This past Sunday, Loyola held their annual Powder Puff game. The Seniors remained victorious, dominating the Juniors, 24-12.
This year, the flag football game consisted of two quarters and one five minute half time, giving plenty of time for both the Seniors and Juniors to make a play for winning the game.
Before the game, Seniors and Juniors made sure to get their predictions in for who would come out on top this year. Seniors, Mary McQuillen, Bria Licudine, and Michelle Dutkin, all “think the seniors will win”. Claire Pasko, Junior, thinks “the juniors will win because we are the best”.
The game finally started at around one o’clock, with the juniors scoring a touchdown off the bat starting the game off right, 6-0. Caroline Kotz, Senior, then responded with a touchdown of her own half way through the first quarter. The Juniors were determined, and made the score 12-6 with only minutes left on the clock in the first. Yet, the Seniors were not going down without a fight and tied the game, 12-12, with one second left on the clock.
Going into the second half, both teams seemed tense as the clock was going to continue running till the end of the allotted time. With 13:42 left on the clock, the Seniors scored a touchdown finally securing the lead. The Juniors continue to have a run of bad luck with a few missed passes. With 8:21 left, the Seniors sealed their win with a touchdown 24-12. The Juniors made some last ditch attempts to try and make a comeback but that Senior defense was not going to allow that. The final score of this year’s Powder Puff was 24-12. Seniors win!
Mr. Ceplecha, the Senior’s coach, gave his final thoughts after the Seniors clutched the win, “it was a beautiful day for it, after being rained out the past two years…but the seniors were victorious, woooo, you can’t beat it”!
All in all, it was a great game with efforts made by both teams, yet the Seniors might have just wanted it more.
