The Solution to Pollution

Gianna Lapasso, Writer

Eighteen billion pounds of plastic gets dumped into the ocean each year. Megan McCall’s “Make a Change: Use Less Plastic” offers four quick changes in order to reduce the amount of plastic we use: glass containers, metal straws, reusable grocery bags, and long-lasting water bottles.

McCall’s suggestions are super helpful, but of course there are always more easy changes that will help the environment. For example: bring your own cup to Starbucks, go for cardboard over plastic in your household items, or skip the Ziploc bags.

All of these are one time investments, so you will be saving money as well. Plus, stores like Target, Whole Foods, and Starbucks will offer discounts for bringing your own reusable item!
