Women in STEAM Bake for a Good Cause

Charlotte O'Bryan, Writer

Women in STEAM is an empowering club at Loyola that gives young girls the opportunity to grow their passions, express interest and be a part of a supportive community in the realms of science, technology, engineering, art, and math.  This community shows how women can use the aspects of STEAM in their futures and why it’s important to keep girls’ interests in STEAM vivacious.

As a new member of Women in STEAM, it is a fun way to learn from other young women at Loyola and have a chance to learn new things every meeting. Unfortunately these opportunities are not available to many young girls around the world. The Women in STEAM club has decided to donate the proceeds for the bake sale this Thursday, November 11, to an organization whose main goal is to give young girls across the globe these opportunities that girls here have at Loyola.

Shesthefirst is a community that strives to help girls overcome the struggles of poverty, gender discrimination, expectations for early marriages and traditional roles, and unfortunately, many more. Shesthefirst believes that by creating girl specified organizations, it secures more chances for young women to achieve their goals.

Shesthefirst creates spaces where girls are encouraged to grow from each other, and work on goals as a whole. Loyola’s community has the opportunity to help grow awareness and help these girls in need.

Stop by the piazza this Thursday for a delicious baked good and donate to a great cause!
