Football Team Cruises Past First Playoff Opponent

Corey Larsen works his way through the Plainfield South defense to score the first touchdown of the day. The team would go on to win 42-7.

Loyola dominated their first playoff game defeating Plainfield South 42-7 this past Saturday, October 29.

The game began with #3 Quinn Foley returning the kick off, starting the Ramblers at the 31 yard line.

In the first possession of the game, Ramblers quarterback, Jake Sterney, threw a touchdown reception to #11 Corey Larsen. The extra point kick by #19 Michael Baker was good and the Ramblers led 7-0.

Plainfield South began their first possession, South quarterback #4 Connor Folliard threw a pass that was intercepted by Loyola DB #33 Johnny McQuire, who then scored a touchdown for the Ramblers. Once again, the extra point kick by #19 Michael Baker was good. The Ramblers led 14-0 just nine minutes and one second into the first quarter.

Plainfield South was in possession again, but had no progression. Rambler line backer#58 Ethan Hogg
sacked Folliard on the second down, forcing Plainfield to punt on the fourth down.

Ramblers gained possession, and QB Jake Sterney handed the ball to RB #21 Will Nimesheim. Nimesheim, first string running back, was tackled by three Plainfield defenders. Nimesheim and was injured on the 23 yard line.

Nimesheim left the game, so backup RB Will Foster came on the field. Foster, with a carry, scored a touchdown for the Ramblers with 5:36 left in the first quarter. The extra point kick was good, and the Ramblers led 21-0.

With still no real forward progression shown from Plainfield, the Ramblers were back in possession. Running back  Luke Foster showed out, earning the Ramblers another touchdown with 3:51 left in int he quarter. The kick was good, and the Ramblers now led 27-0.

Plainfield continued to be shut down by Loyola’s defense. Quarterback Connor Folliard was sacked once again by Rambler #78 DL Jimmy McGovern.

Ramblers regained possession, and #3 Quinn Foley scored a touchdown with 1:27 left in the first quarter. The extra point kick was good; Ramblers led 35-0.

The start of the second quarter began with no real movement by either team.

With 7:32 left in the second quarter, #4 RB Ryan Craddock, took control and ran the ball for four downs in a row gaining more yards each play. On the fifth carry attempt, Ryan Craddock scored a touchdown. After a successful extra point attempt, the Ramblers led 42-0.

Loyola decided to start the third quarter with the second string defenders in the game and #7 Luke Collins as QB.

The third quarter saw stead action from both teams, but no touchdowns scored.

Quarter four saw the first, and only, scoring drive for Plainfield South. Plainfield player #9, scored their first touchdown with 9:51 left in quarter four. The Plainfield extra point kick was good, cutting the Ramblers’ lead to 42-7.

The Ramblers defenders finished the game strong. With only 51 seconds left in the game, #32 LB Jack Carlin sacked Plainfield’s QB. The game concluded and Ramblers won 42-7.
