If you’re looking for a local food restaurant that sells delicious food at affordable prices, Sauganash Grill is the place for you.
Sauganash Grill is a food place located on Peterson and Cicero. Their menu covers a wide array from burgers and chicken wraps all the way to tacos and milkshakes. Sauganash grill has been open for about six years, and it has become a staple to many “Sauganashians.” The biggest critique that I had about this was their hours that they were open. They aren’t open on Saturday or Sunday, which is fairly inconvenient.
The inside was very nice. It’s in a small little building, but they make the most of it. They have a nice bar type seating along with booths and an outdoor section that is gated and has umbrellas.
When I got there I ordered a cheeseburger, cheese fries, a grilled chicken wrap, and a steak tacos. The total came out to $42, which was pleasant for the amount of food that I ordered.
The food took around 7 or 8 minutes to come out which surprised me as the quantity of food I ordered I was expecting a 15 minute wait.
The first item I tried was the cheeseburger. It was served on a nice bun and the patty was thick and juicy. The burger was my favorite item I ordered. It had a great flavor and was juicy and not over cooked. The cheese complemented the burger well, and I devoured half of the burger before trying any other item.
My colleague, fellow Rambler, Quinn Herbert agreed with me and said, “The burger was fantastic, it was seasoned just right and was without a doubt my favorite item.”
The next item I dug into was their cheese fries. They were pretty simple, just fries and a cup of cheese. It was classic your average cheese fries that you would get at a fast food restaurant. My one critique, however, was the lack of salt on the fries. Along with that the fries were thick cut, which is not my liking. However I enjoyed the nice cup of cheese and my fries even though they were not to my preference.
My third item that I tried was the grilled chicken wrap. I got this without the beans, but this was my least favorite item that I tried. The chicken was pretty dry, but it was seasoned well. The wrap wasn’t wrapped tightly and fell apart when I was half way through. However, the one spotlight of this was the chipotle ranch. It had the right amount of kick and “ranchyness” to it and saved the wrap from the chicken being dry. I don’t recommend getting this; however, I do recommend the chipotle ranch.
My last item was a steak taco. Steak tacos are personally a favorite of mine, and these were average steak tacos. They were simple with lime and onions, and like the chicken, they were seasoned very nicely. It was a nice and simple steak taco.
Overall I enjoyed my experience at Sauganash Grill a lot. I think that the burger is a must try and the taco and cheese fries were just good and simple food. The chicken wrap was lackluster but still enjoyable. I heavily recommend this restaurant as it is a local business that serves nice and simple food at a nice and simple location.
