2024 has been a year ripe with phenomenal music. All over TikTok and other media platforms, the debates for who will win big with Album of the Year at the Grammys are raging.
Charli xcx’s BRAT is a strong leader for this category. The phrase “Brat Summer” has practically taken over the internet, as well as the neon green that was seen on the album cover. Though some could argue that BRAT isn’t as lyrically strong as the other contestants, there is no doubt that it holds some cultural significance. Charli xcx was single handedly able to bring back 2000s New York City rave culture, and her concerts have proven that. They simply consist of Charli in a bizarre outfit, with her turntable, while lights are flashing and the crowd is screaming. If not for its lyrics or sound, BRAT can surely win through its influence.
Taylor Swift is an amazing singer/songwriter with 14 Grammys, so it is no surprise that her album, The Tortured Poets Department, is being considered. Her biggest achievement with this album were the lyrics, which were always raw, cutting, and beautifully written. Already awarded with multiple VMAs and broken records, everyone knows that this album is a fierce competitor. If she wins, Swift will also become the first person to ever have won five of these awards.
Hit Me Hard And Soft was released to critical acclaim. It is proof of Billie Eilish’s change in her usual sound, and is able to stand out amidst all of her other projects. It showcases Eilish’s vocal abilities, as well as her ability to pen relatable and scream-worthy songs. Her lead single, “LUNCH,” was an immediate sensation that was the beginning to a perfect new era for Eilish.
Though these three albums are the most likely to win, other contenders could be Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande, C, XOXO by Camila Cabello, and Cowboy Carter by Beyoncé. Due to the extraordinary success of each album that has the possibility of being nominated, the Grammys is sure to be a bloodbath this year as fandoms fight to defend their favorites.
