I’m not one to judge perspectives. The world is filled with all sorts of perspectives. I draw the line at my neighbor’s humanity. Dixie is and always has been opposed to my neighbors’ humanity and it’s likely opposed to yours too.
Dixie was born to stop my neighbor from seeing freedom. Originating from the Mason- Dixon line, Dixie became the identity of the South. Anything below the line was a slave state and thus Dixie. In 1859, one year before the civil war, the song “I Wish I Was In Dixie Land” dropped. The same writer of “I Wish I Was In Dixie Land”, also invented black face in popular culture. Generals in the south used it as a war cry. The Confederacy played it up to stoke racism, slavery, and the Southern Cause. Dixie is a remnant of the Lost Cause of the Confederacy. The Daughters of the Confederacy espoused Dixie, they also instituted Confederate monuments and taught that slavery was enjoyed by slaves. George Wallace espoused Dixie, he also fought tooth and nail to preserve segregation. It goes without saying but the KKK espouses Dixie. Here’s a general rule of thumb in morality; whatever the Klan believes, we should probably believe the opposite. When you start connecting the historical dots, it becomes crystal clear what Dixie is. Dixie is and always has been racism masquerading as culture. Don’t reject culture, but do reject hate. Reject the hate of the Klan, reject the hate of George Wallace, and reject the hate of slavery. Dixie was born to defend hate and it’s time we bring it to an end.
Dixie is not dead and outlives slavery and it’s on us to cast it out of America. Dixie is the everyday. Dixie is the Young Republicans group chat. Dixie is Nick Fuentes. Dixie is the small joke everyone tells. Dixie is Homophobia and Islamophobia. Dixie doesn’t want me to be in this country. Right now, as a black man, Dixie would rather America do away with me. Dixie also wouldn’t approve of Irish teachers who can make cool animal sounds. Dixie wants the America of yesterday, where only White Protestant men have power. Dixie halts progress and strives to put down communities. Dixie is livid that demographics are changing. Dixie wants to take America back. We are not going back. If we are to advance as a nation, if we are to heal the wounds of hate, we must do away with Dixie.
Today and yesterday, Dixie is hate. If it is a culture; it is a culture of hate. The origins of Dixie are hate and in the age of its assured demise it remains hate. As Americans we have a choice. We must choose if we accept the hate of yesterday, or if we perfect our union into a more prosperous and equal America. Let us choose a more prosperous and equal America and do away with seditious Dixie.
